Moving from Greece to the UAE
A Greek resident considering the UAE should compare the destination with the regime they would be leaving: Greece's 5A, 5B and 5C rules are inbound tools with different scopes, while the UAE has no personal income tax after a genuine exit.
Greece has three different answers
Article 5A is EUR 100,000 flat on foreign income for 15 years, plus EUR 20,000 per family member and a EUR 500,000 investment. Article 5B is 7% on foreign income including capital gains for 15 years with no investment. Article 5C exempts 50% of Greek employment income for seven years.
Leaving Greece means giving up an inbound regime only if it applies to the person. The right comparison is the person's actual income category, not the most attractive headline.
The UAE is simpler locally
The UAE has no personal income tax on wages, investment or real estate income and no individual capital-gains, dividend, wealth or inheritance tax. UAE domestic residence has alternative tests; the 90+ day route has additional nationality or permit and home or work conditions. Check the FTA guide and any treaty separately.
A property Golden Visa is AED 2,000,000 subject to the applicable ownership and application conditions. Annual business turnover exceeding AED 1,000,000 can bring a natural person into corporate tax. The standard 9% rate is on taxable income above AED 375,000; wages and qualifying personal investment income are excluded.
The residence break still has to be real
A Greek day-count threshold was not verified in this research pass. The move should therefore not be reduced to a claimed number of days; residence, family, home and source rules should be tested together.
Before you move
- Do not compare the UAE with Greece's 5A unless the person actually qualifies for 5A.
- Greece's general day-count threshold was not verified here.
- UAE corporate tax applies to relevant business turnover, not personal wages or investment income.
