Moving from France to the UAE

The UAE removes personal income tax, but the French exit is not a day-count exercise. Article 4B has four alternative residence tests, and French real-estate wealth tax can remain the central issue for a family that has not genuinely broken its facts.

The UAE destination is clear

The UAE levies no personal income tax on wages, investment or real-estate income, and no individual capital-gains, dividend, wealth or inheritance tax. Non-GCC nationals are exempt from social security.

UAE domestic residence has alternative tests; the 90+ day route has additional nationality or permit and home or work conditions. Check the FTA guide and any treaty separately. A property Golden Visa is AED 2,000,000 subject to the applicable ownership and application conditions.

France does not use one safe day count

Article 4B applies four alternative tests, any one of which is sufficient. A home or family centre in France can create residence on well under 183 days. French financial-asset gains and dividends face the 31.4% PFU in 2026, while IFI reaches net real estate above EUR 1.3M.

The planning task is to evidence the factual exit: home, family, work and economic centre. A UAE visa by itself does not answer French residence.

A French investment portfolio needs its own review

UAE business turnover exceeding AED 1,000,000 in a calendar year can bring a natural person into corporate tax; the standard 9% rate applies to taxable income above AED 375,000; wages and personal investment income are outside it. Moving an operating business is therefore a different project from relocating a portfolio.

Before you move

  • French residence can arise through any one of four Article 4B tests.
  • The UAE's 9% corporate tax is not a personal income tax on wages or personal investment income.
  • IFI is a real-estate tax; financial assets are exempt under the verified 2026 rule.
